Apart from that, it is also a politico-socio-economic challenge. Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had described the LWE as “India’s biggest internal security challenge ever” (Akhoury 2006). Web12 Sixty-two thousand nine hundred nineteen IAP projects were completed in 88 districts of 10 Maoist-affected states between April 2013 and July 2016 (Government of India, 2016). The IAP was rebranded as the ‘Special Central Assistance for 30 most LWE Affected Districts’ in 2024 and is still under implementation (Government of India, n.d.).
