Grasslands are found on every continent except Antarctica, and in total cover between 30 and 40% of Earth’s land area. With trees either sparse or absent, grasslands are wide open places that experience low rainfall. WebGrasslands are among the largest terrestrial biomes and are hotspots of biodiversity in many regions. These ecosystems cover >25% of the terrestrial earth's surface, with Eurasia alone supporting about 9.3 million km 2 of grasslands (Török & Dengler 2024 ).
